Colon is divided into ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon and sigmoid colon. Ascending colon absorbs the water content from the stools and converts it into the solid state. The converted stools move forward in the intestine through a series of muscle contraction known as peristalsis and are passed to the transverse colon, descending colon and sigmoid colon and finally settle at rectum. Rectum is a baggy structure and is the last part of the last intestine. The stools are excreted out from the rectum through canal known as the anal canal or anus.
